MONUMENTAL CHANGE MEANS A BETTER FUTURE FOR HEALTHCARE

MONUMENTAL CHANGE MEANS A BETTER FUTURE FOR HEALTHCARE

Reading Time: 3 minutes

The effects of the election could be pivotal in determining the future of healthcare and other essential industries, especially in terms of driving innovation and disrupting outdated models to make services more accessible, affordable, and inclusive for all Americans. Here’s a look at how the evolving political landscape may influence healthcare and related industries:

  1. Healthcare Reform and Access Expansion

As healthcare remains a priority issue, the election results could determine shifts in policy geared toward broader access, cost reduction, and resource availability. These changes could open doors for programs designed to ensure access for underserved communities, extend coverage options, and focus on preventive care, addressing the root causes of many health disparities.

Expanding access often involves leveraging technology, such as telehealth and virtual care solutions. Telehealth became a lifeline for many during the pandemic, and policies emerging from this election may solidify its role in regular care, making healthcare more convenient and available regardless of location.

  1. Innovation Through Funding and Regulation

Election outcomes often shape how much funding, and support will be allocated to research, development, and emerging technologies in healthcare and adjacent sectors. This funding is key to fostering innovation and allowing companies to explore new solutions like AI-driven diagnostics, personalized medicine, and data integration. With supportive regulation, startups and established companies alike can bring groundbreaking solutions to the market, disrupting the status quo and benefiting patients with more efficient, personalized, and affordable care.

Regulatory support also determines the speed at which these advancements are brought into practice. By adapting regulations to accommodate new technologies and business models, policymakers can facilitate a smoother transition into a more modern, data-driven healthcare system.

  1. Addressing Mental Health and Wellness Holistically

Recent years have brought a new focus on mental health, recognizing it as critical to overall well-being and productivity. Election-driven policy changes may create room for mental health services to be treated as essential within healthcare frameworks. Additionally, broader access to behavioral health integration services, stress management programs, and support for those managing chronic conditions could positively affect mental health across the population.

Holistic mental health support often extends beyond traditional healthcare settings, affecting workplace environments and communities at large. As more employers recognize the value of employee well-being, there’s a growing demand for programs addressing mental health and wellness comprehensively. Political support could help sustain this trend, making mental health resources more accessible.

  1. Cross-Industry Collaboration and Innovation

Today’s election may lay the groundwork for policies that promote collaboration between industries. For example, advancements in AI, cybersecurity, and digital infrastructure are becoming foundational in healthcare, allowing providers to deliver safer, more accurate, and more accessible care. Collaboration between healthcare, tech, and insurance sectors could further revolutionize patient experience and operational efficiency. By encouraging cross-industry partnerships, policymakers can facilitate innovations that reach beyond healthcare, affecting industries like finance, education, and public safety.

Disruption through collaboration may also influence the job market, creating new roles and opportunities across fields that were previously unrelated. As industries converge, we can expect to see diverse job roles emerge, where expertise in one field complements the needs of another.

  1. A Future-Ready Workforce and Education

As industries evolve, the skills and training required to support them must also advance. Policies that drive investments in education and workforce development are essential to ensure that the workforce is ready for the future of healthcare, which includes a higher demand for tech-savvy healthcare professionals, data scientists, and cybersecurity experts. Educational institutions may see increased support to adapt their programs to focus on these skills, creating a future-ready workforce that can support innovation across sectors.

  1. Transforming the Patient Experience with Virtual Care and AI

With election-driven policies supporting digital health, AI could become an integral part of healthcare, helping clinicians make data-informed decisions. Virtual care solutions aim to bridge the gap between digital interactions and physical patient care by offering real-time assistance and military-grade security. Such innovations could revolutionize patient experience by ensuring personalized and continuous care, making healthcare more accessible and efficient.

AI applications extend beyond diagnostics. They are being integrated into workflow optimization, predictive analytics, and remote patient monitoring, all contributing to a patient-centered care model. Policy support for these tools could create an environment where patients receive a more streamlined and satisfying experience, regardless of where they are or what type of care they need.

Paving the Way for a Healthier, More Innovative America

The results of today’s election have the potential to drive meaningful change in healthcare and related industries, reshaping how services are delivered and experienced. By encouraging innovation, funding research, and supporting regulatory adaptations, policymakers can help ensure that the U.S. healthcare system is not only more inclusive but also better equipped to address the diverse needs of all Americans.

The road ahead is about bridging gaps in care, leveraging technology, and fostering partnerships across industries—all of which can contribute to a more dynamic, resilient healthcare system and a healthier, more prosperous future for the country.

ELEVATING PATIENT CARE WITH DEDICATED CLINICIANS

ELEVATING PATIENT CARE WITH DEDICATED CLINICIANS

Reading Time: 3 minutes

At Bedrock Healthcare at Home’s Patient Care Therapy Group, we believe in the transformative impact of lifelong learning, especially for therapists who are committed to providing the highest quality of care. This commitment to growth is why we’re thrilled to have Michaela DeLiberato, MS, OTR/L, LSVT, CDP, as one of our Occupational Therapists specializing in home care for older adults. Michaela’s journey in healthcare, marked by continuous professional development and specialization, exemplifies how passionate clinicians elevate patient care, offering skill, empathy, and tailored interventions.

Why Continuing Education Matters in Healthcare

For therapists, continuing education is essential to stay current on the best practices and emerging research that shape patient care. Occupational therapy, especially with aging populations, requires a nuanced understanding of both physical and mental health. Staying informed allows therapists like Michaela to provide effective care that adapts to the unique challenges of aging. Continuous learning fosters confidence and trust, giving patients the assurance that they’re in expert hands. For Michaela, who holds a BA in Social and Behavioral Sciences and a Master’s in Occupational Therapy from Seton Hall University, a commitment to lifelong learning has been her cornerstone since early in her career.

Spotlight on Michaela DeLiberato, MS, OTR/L, BCG, LSVT, CDP

Michaela’s dedication to her field is clear in her credentials and certifications, which include:

  • LSVT BIG: Specialization in Parkinson’s Disease therapy
  • Certified Dementia Practitioner (CDP): Training for working with patients with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia
  • Reiki & OT Level I & II: Integrating holistic practices into her therapy approach

Michaela’s most recent accomplishment is earning the prestigious AOTA Board Certification in Gerontology (BCG)—a distinction held by fewer than 1% of occupational therapists in the U.S., with only 142 OTs currently certified. This credential requires extensive experience: at least three years as an OT, 3,000 hours in geriatric care, and 500 direct patient hours. Her certification represents a milestone in her career and for Bedrock Patient Care Therapy Group. Michaela notes that “achieving AOTA’s BCG has been a goal since I started working with older adults. I’m incredibly proud to bring this level of expertise to our team and my patients.”

The Value of Specialized Clinicians in Geriatric Care

In Michaela’s words, “As the older adult population continues to age, it is imperative that we advocate for occupational therapy and the value we bring to helping older adults.” This population often faces unique challenges, from maintaining mobility to recovering independence in daily tasks. Specialized knowledge, like Michaela’s, allows clinicians to create targeted interventions that significantly impact patient lives, helping prevent hospitalizations and enabling aging in place.

Michaela’s approach centers on “thinking outside the box” to meet patients’ goals, a perspective informed by her early experiences with family members in healthcare and her longstanding passion for helping others. Raised on the Jersey Shore and influenced by her parents’ volunteer work as EMTs, Michaela found her calling in occupational therapy—a role that allows her to build relationships with patients and improve their daily lives.

Continuing Education as a Path to Quality Patient Care

Continuing education and advanced certifications, like the BCG, are crucial in today’s healthcare landscape. They are a testament to a clinician’s commitment to both their field and their patients. Michaela believes that “earning your BCG adds value to the profession by demonstrating excellence of care and critical thinking in geriatrics.” She highlights that by staying informed on the latest research, OTs can serve their patients better, providing specialized care tailored to their unique needs.

Looking Forward with Passionate, Skilled Clinicians

We’re proud to support and celebrate clinicians like Michaela, who bring expertise, compassion, and a commitment to lifelong learning to their practice. Michaela’s story serves as a powerful example of how continued professional growth benefits both the therapist and their patients, fostering a healthcare culture that champions patient well-being, independence, and fulfillment.

Bedrock Healthcare at Home Partners with athenahealth to Help Nursing Home and Home-based Care Providers Enhance Clinical and Financial Results

Bedrock Healthcare at Home Partners with athenahealth to Help Nursing Home and Home-based Care Providers Enhance Clinical and Financial Results

Reading Time: 3 minutes

Edison, NJ (December 19, 2023) – Bedrock Healthcare at Home, the pioneer in developing a wellness ecosystem that de-fragments traditional healthcare through a continuum of collaborative care, today announced it is working with athenahealth, a leading provider of network-enabled software and services for medical groups and health systems nationwide, to provide nursing home and home-based care providers with access to the two companies’ value-added services.

By wrapping Bedrock Healthcare’s extensive experience in at-home care around athenahealth’s interoperable suite of health IT solutions, clinicians from across Bedrock’s healthcare partner ecosystem, including Patient Care Medical Group and Patient Care Therapy Group, can more easily collaborate on care and chronic care management to improve patient outcomes. This is especially important for the growing number of elderly patients in the United States who frequently experience costly hospital readmissions. While the national average for readmission rates from 2021 to 2022 hovered around 33%, Bedrock’s readmission rates are much lower.

Bedrock Healthcare and athenahealth are committed to creating a connected healthcare ecosystem that simplifies the delivery of high-quality, integrated care. Because athenaOne® exchanges clinical data with external health IT entities and partners across athenahealth’s network to make essential information readily available at the point of care, providers can make more informed care decisions that optimize the patient experience and enhance clinical and operational performance. For example, primary care providers, therapists, and dieticians can work together to manage a patient’s chronic disease using athenahealth’s technology to continuously stay connected to each other and the patient’s condition.

“As healthcare evolves, partnerships become instrumental in driving meaningful change,” said Dr. Andre Gomez, DPT, President and COO, Bedrock Healthcare. “Our collaboration with athenahealth signifies a commitment to not only meet but exceed the expectations of our patients and partners. By combining our expertise, we’re laying the foundation for a healthcare future that is both patient-centric and financially sustainable.”

athenahealth’s modern technology is built on an open, connected network that delivers data-driven insights from across the company’s network of more than 155,000 providers. Through the combination of the company’s integrated suite of electronic health record, revenue cycle management and patient engagement solutions with Bedrock’s coordinated management leadership, home-based providers and staff can be freed of burdensome administrative work so they can focus on patient care and creating value for their organizations.

“athenahealth is dedicated to curing the complexity that plagues healthcare practices and gets in their way of delivering best-in-class patient care. In today’s fragmented healthcare ecosystem, it’s more important than ever for providers across the care continuum to be able to experience interoperability for better decision making – which means having relevant patient information available at the moment of care, wherever that care is taking place,” said Bret Connor, chief operating officer at athenahealth. “With athenaOne and Bedrock’s expertise and resources, nursing home and home-care professionals will be able to practice best-in-class care more easily while prioritizing financial sustainability.”

Through this partnership, expert teams will work collaboratively to generate actionable insights derived from real-time information and data analytics to empower healthcare organizations to make a positive impact on both patients and the bottom line.
