Tips for a Faster Recovery

  1. Follow Post-Operative Instructions

Your surgeon’s instructions are tailored to your procedure and personal health. Adhering to these guidelines can prevent complications and promote healing.

  1. Manage Pain Effectively

Take prescribed medications as directed, and don’t hesitate to discuss pain management options with your doctor. Over-the-counter medications or alternative therapies, such as ice packs, can also help.

  1. Prioritize Nutrition

A balanced diet rich in protein, vitamins, and minerals supports tissue repair. Include foods like lean meats, fish, fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. Staying hydrated is equally important.

  1. Get Plenty of Rest

Rest is essential for healing. Avoid overexerting yourself and listen to your body’s signals.

  1. Incorporate Gentle Movement

Light activity, such as walking, can improve circulation and reduce the risk of blood clots. Follow your doctor’s advice on when and how to reintroduce exercise.

  1. Utilize Physical, Occupational, or Speech Therapy

Depending on the type of surgery, therapies such as physical, occupational, or speech therapy can play a crucial role in recovery. Physical therapy can help rebuild strength and mobility, occupational therapy assists with regaining independence in daily tasks, and speech therapy addresses any communication or swallowing difficulties. These therapies are tailored to your unique needs to ensure a smoother recovery process.

  1. Use Compression Garments or Supports

For procedures like liposuction or joint replacement, wearing compression garments or braces can reduce swelling and support recovery.

  1. Monitor for Signs of Complications

Watch for signs of infection, such as redness, swelling, or fever, and report them to your doctor immediately.

  1. Attend Follow-Up Appointments

Regular check-ins with your healthcare provider ensure your recovery is on track and address any concerns promptly.

ENHANCING PATIENT OUTCOMES THROUGH COLLABORATION

ENHANCING PATIENT OUTCOMES THROUGH COLLABORATION

Reading Time: 3 minutes

For healthcare providers, collaboration is the cornerstone of success, especially when it comes to delivering high-quality, personalized care. One of the strongest examples of this is the partnership between healthcare organizations and Bedrock Healthcare At Home. Through the Bedrock Wellness Ecosystem and the Bedrock Care Management Program, Bedrock brings a holistic approach to patient care in long-term care facilities, assisted living, and other clinical centers. This collaboration not only enhances patient outcomes but also emphasizes the value of teamwork, communication, and the willingness to adjust behaviors to meet mutual goals.

How Bedrock’s Partnership Approach Drives Positive Patient Outcomes

The Bedrock Wellness Ecosystem and Bedrock Care Management Program are designed to work seamlessly with other healthcare providers. Each entity within the ecosystem plays a vital role in managing patient needs, from chronic disease management to rehabilitation and mental health support. By aligning their goals with their partners, Bedrock ensures a streamlined approach that reduces redundancy, fills care gaps, and ultimately improves patient outcomes.

The results of this collaborative approach speak volumes. Research has shown that long-term care facilities and assisted living centers that incorporate integrated care programs experience:

  • A 30% decrease in hospital readmissions, according to the Journal of Geriatric Medicine, which attributes this reduction to continuous monitoring and coordinated care plans.
  • A 40% improvement in patient satisfaction scores due to the consistency and reliability of having a team of professionals working together on behalf of each patient.
  • A 25% increase in patient mobility and independence, thanks to the skilled support from therapists and caregivers who deliver personalized rehabilitation services.

These statistics underscore the importance of structured, well-coordinated partnerships, particularly for vulnerable patient populations who rely on continuity of care.

The Power of Behavior Adjustment in Partnerships

Successful partnerships require adaptability and a willingness to meet the needs of both patients and business partners. For Bedrock Healthcare At Home, this means adjusting their approach based on the unique needs of each partner facility. This flexibility has been key to creating a collaborative environment that fosters trust and shared objectives.

For instance, Bedrock’s team actively listens to the needs of the facilities they work with, allowing them to tailor care plans and interventions that align with each facility’s protocols and preferences. According to a survey by the American Psychological Association, partnerships that prioritize open communication and listening to partners’ needs are 32% more effective. By practicing this approach, Bedrock not only fosters a productive relationship but also sets the stage for facilities to feel empowered in contributing to patient outcomes.

The Bedrock Wellness Ecosystem: Comprehensive Care in Action

The Bedrock Wellness Ecosystem includes a full spectrum of services that collectively improve patient care, including:

  • Skilled Therapists: From physical and occupational therapy to speech therapy, Bedrock’s skilled therapists provide patients with the tools and guidance they need for rehabilitation, promoting recovery and independence.
  • 24/7 Call Center: Bedrock’s call center offers continuous healthcare navigation, ensuring that both patients and staff have access to the support they need at any time of day or night.
  • Accessible Physicians: Bedside and Telehealth visits from experienced physicians allow for quick and reliable medical consultations, reducing the need for emergency hospital visits.
  • Compassionate Caregivers: Bedrock’s caregivers assist with daily activities and offer emotional support, which is critical for patient comfort and quality of life.

Long-Term Benefits of a Collaborative Approach

The willingness to adjust and support a partner’s needs yields long-term benefits for both Bedrock and the facilities they partner with:

  • Higher levels of patient trust and compliance: Patients who receive coordinated care are more likely to adhere to treatment plans and trust their healthcare team.
  • Increased facility satisfaction: Facilities partnering with Bedrock report higher staff satisfaction due to the extra support and resources provided, which contributes to lower turnover rates.
  • Improved financial outcomes: Facilities working with integrated care programs like Bedrock’s see a 30% higher revenue growth rate over five years, according to a study by the Small Business Administration.

The Future of Patient Care: A Model for Collaborative Success

Through flexible partnerships, Bedrock Healthcare At Home demonstrates that collaboration is about more than sharing resources—it’s about building relationships that prioritize patient outcomes. By embracing the Bedrock Wellness Ecosystem and Care Management Program, long-term care facilities and assisted living centers can offer their residents a higher quality of care while enhancing operational efficiency.

At the core of Bedrock’s success is the ability to adapt, listen, and support their partners, recognizing that healthcare is a shared journey. Just as in any business relationship, these partnerships are built on the principle of give-and-take. When partners like Bedrock and care facilities work together to meet each other’s needs, they not only create value for each other but, most importantly, improve the lives of the patients who depend on them.

In the evolving world of healthcare, where outcomes are everything, the Bedrock approach stands as a model for how healthcare providers can create positive, lasting change—one patient at a time.

RESPIRATORY CARE WITH BEDROCK

RESPIRATORY CARE WITH BEDROCK

Reading Time: 3 minutes

At Bedrock Healthcare at Home, our Bedrock H.E.A.L.T.H. initiative (Healthy Ecosystems Advancing Life Through Healing) and our comprehensive Bedrock Care Management Program can play a vital role in respiratory care.  We support respiratory care through physical therapy (PT), occupational therapy (OT), and speech therapy (ST). These therapies are key to improving outcomes for patients with chronic respiratory conditions, and when integrated with the Bedrock Care Management approach, they ensure a holistic, proactive treatment model.

For individuals suffering from conditions like Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), asthma, pneumonia, or recovering from illnesses such as COVID-19, the combination of PT, OT, and ST can dramatically improve their quality of life. Our Bedrock Care Management Program emphasizes coordinated, comprehensive care that works across disciplines to enhance patient outcomes, prevent hospital readmissions, and support long-term health.

Physical Therapy and Respiratory Care

Physical therapy strengthens the muscles involved in breathing and improves overall respiratory function. PTs play a crucial role in improving lung capacity and ensuring patients stay active, which reduces the risk of exacerbations. According to the American Thoracic Society, physical therapy can reduce hospitalizations by 32% in chronic respiratory disease patients, making it an essential part of Bedrock’s population health strategy.

How PT Supports Respiratory Health:

  • Breathing Techniques: PTs at Bedrock teach exercises such as diaphragmatic breathing and pursed-lip breathing to enhance oxygen intake and manage shortness of breath.
  • Endurance Training: Patients with respiratory issues can experience muscle weakness from reduced activity. PTs work on building endurance safely, helping patients regain physical strength.
  • Posture Improvement: By addressing body alignment, PTs help reduce the physical strain on the lungs, allowing patients to breathe more easily.

Occupational Therapy and Respiratory Care

Occupational therapy addresses the practical challenges of daily life that become more difficult with respiratory conditions. Our OT specialists at Bedrock help patients maintain their independence and conserve energy during routine activities, aligning with Bedrock’s mission of enhancing quality of life and long-term health.

How OT Enhances Respiratory Care:

  • Energy Conservation Strategies: OTs work with patients to adjust how they perform daily tasks, helping them conserve energy by using adaptive techniques and tools.
  • Pacing and Activity Planning: By teaching patients how to pace their activities, OTs help them avoid overexertion, which can worsen respiratory symptoms.
  • Environmental Modifications: OTs assess the patient’s home environment and recommend changes to reduce allergens and create a more breathable space.

Speech Therapy and Respiratory Care

Speech therapy plays an essential role for respiratory patients, particularly when speech or swallowing is impacted by respiratory conditions. At Bedrock, our speech-language pathologists (SLPs) provide care that helps patients regain their ability to communicate effectively and swallow safely.

How ST Aids Respiratory Health:

  • Swallowing Therapy: SLPs help patients improve the coordination and strength of swallowing muscles, reducing the risk of aspiration, which can lead to pneumonia.
  • Breathing and Speech Coordination: SLPs help patients regulate their breathing while speaking, which is especially important for those with respiratory weakness.
  • Cough Efficiency Training: For those who struggle with weak coughs, SLPs train patients to improve their ability to clear their airways and prevent infection.

Bedrock Care Management and Bedrock H.E.A.L.T.H.

Our Bedrock Care Management Program integrates physical, occupational, and speech therapy into a broader framework that focuses on chronic care management, transitional care, and remote patient monitoring. This holistic approach ensures that all aspects of a patient’s health are managed effectively, preventing readmissions and supporting long-term health.

Bedrock H.E.A.L.T.H., our innovative initiative, is redefining population health management. It focuses on creating healthy ecosystems that promote healing by incorporating advanced care planning, chronic care management, and real-time system integration. By coordinating care across multiple disciplines, including PT, OT, and ST, we can better prevent respiratory complications and ensure that patients receive the most comprehensive, proactive care possible.

Key Statistics and Impact

  • COPD: Nearly 16 million Americans suffer from COPD, but studies show that integrating physical therapy into care can reduce hospitalization rates by 26%.
  • COVID-19 Recovery: Approximately 50% of patients recovering from severe COVID-19 continue to experience respiratory issues. Combining PT, OT, and ST has proven to be highly effective in improving their function and quality of life.
  • Bedrock Care Management Results: Our integrated care model has resulted in improved patient outcomes, with a focus on long-term health and the prevention of chronic disease complications.

At Bedrock Healthcare at Home, we believe in a collaborative approach to respiratory care. The combined efforts of physical therapists, occupational therapists, and speech-language pathologists, when paired with the proactive care model of Bedrock H.E.A.L.T.H. and our Bedrock Care Management Program, create a support system that empowers patients to live healthier, more independent lives. Together, we can ensure better breathing, better movement, and a better quality of life for our patients.

STRENGTH AND HUMAN RESILIENCE IN THE FACE OF ALS

STRENGTH AND HUMAN RESILIENCE IN THE FACE OF ALS

Reading Time: 3 minutes

Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), often referred to as Lou Gehrig’s disease, is a progressive neurodegenerative condition that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. For those diagnosed, it presents a series of life-altering challenges as it slowly robs the body of its ability to move, speak, and eventually breathe. But even in the face of this difficult diagnosis, many individuals demonstrate remarkable resilience, determination, and a will to live life to the fullest.

Understanding ALS: What You Should Know

ALS affects an estimated 5,000 people in the United States each year. The disease damages motor neurons, the nerve cells responsible for controlling voluntary muscles, leading to muscle weakness, difficulty speaking or swallowing, and eventually paralysis. While the average life expectancy after diagnosis is two to five years, some individuals live much longer, and no two cases are exactly alike. One of the most famous cases, physicist Stephen Hawking, lived for more than five decades with the disease, defying the odds and making significant contributions to science.

There is currently no cure for ALS, though treatments exist to help manage symptoms, slow the disease’s progression, and improve quality of life. Some of these treatments include physical therapy, medications and devices to assist with communication and mobility.

The Resilience of the Human Spirit

One of the most inspiring aspects of ALS is the resilience displayed by those who live with it. Despite the physical limitations that ALS imposes, many people find ways to adapt and maintain a strong sense of purpose and connection to life.

Take, for example, the story of Steve Gleason, a former NFL player who was diagnosed with ALS in 2011. Rather than allowing the diagnosis to define him, Steve founded Team Gleason, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing people with ALS the technology, equipment, and services they need to live with greater independence. Steve’s message is one of empowerment, showing that while the disease may limit what the body can do, it does not limit the strength of the mind, heart, and soul.

Similarly, Sarah Ezekiel, an artist from the UK, continues to create beautiful works of art using eye-gaze technology, proving that ALS cannot stop creativity and expression. Her story is a powerful testament to the idea that while the body may weaken, the spirit remains unbreakable.

Let us not forget Bedrock Healthcare At Home’s very own Bedrock Patient Care Therapy Group’s inspiration, Rick LeVine who is facing ALS with courage since his diagnosis in December 2022. For over a year and a half, Tarrah C. and Tessa Campbell PT, DPT, CLT-LANA have been dedicated to working with Rick, continuously adapting their therapy methods to support his independence and quality of life. Although ALS progresses, their interventions have helped slow its impact, allowing Rick to retain as much control as possible. His resilience inspires us every day.

Lessons in Strength and Determination

ALS has a way of bringing out the best in people—both in those living with the disease and in the communities that support them. The Ice Bucket Challenge, which went viral in 2014, raised $115 million for the ALS Association, leading to advancements in research, awareness, and support services. This global movement highlighted the power of collective action and the incredible impact that communities can have when they rally together for a cause.

Living with ALS is not without challenges. For the individual diagnosed, every day brings new obstacles, but it also brings new opportunities to adapt, innovate, and persevere. Many people with ALS choose to focus on what they can still do, rather than on what they’ve lost. This mindset is a profound example of human resilience.

What We Can Do: Support, Awareness, and Hope

Raising awareness about ALS and continuing to support research are crucial steps toward finding a cure. Whether by participating in fundraising events, supporting organizations that assist people with ALS, or simply spreading knowledge about the condition, each of us can play a role in this fight.

ALS might be a devastating disease, but the stories of courage, determination, and resilience remind us that it is not a life sentence without meaning or purpose. People with ALS teach us that life can still be full of love, connection, and achievement—even in the most trying of circumstances. The advancements made in research give hope that one day, ALS will no longer be a diagnosis of limited options, but one where treatments or even a cure will be readily available.

The Human Spirit Endures

ALS presents immense challenges, but it also showcases the strength of the human spirit. From continuing to pursue passions through innovative technology, to raising awareness, to simply living each day with grace and courage, individuals with ALS remind us that even when faced with the unimaginable, there is still room for hope, determination, and love.

PHYSICAL THERAPISTS: TRANSFORMING LIVES ONE MOVEMENT AT A TIME

PHYSICAL THERAPISTS: TRANSFORMING LIVES ONE MOVEMENT AT A TIME

Reading Time: 2 minutes

The incredible work of Physical Therapists (PTs), Physical Therapist Assistants (PTAs), and students help people regain movement, reduce pain, and improve their quality of life. This blog shines a spotlight on the transformative power of physical therapy and raise awareness about its numerous benefits.

The Role of Physical Therapists

Physical therapy plays a crucial role in healthcare. PTs are movement experts who use their extensive knowledge of the human body to help individuals recover from injuries, manage chronic conditions, and prevent further complications. Whether it’s helping an athlete recover from a sports injury, assisting someone post-surgery, or working with individuals managing long-term health conditions like arthritis or stroke, physical therapists are integral in improving physical function and enhancing lives.

Physical Therapy’s Impact on Overall Health

When people think about physical therapy, they often think of rehabilitation after an injury or surgery. But physical therapy offers so much more. It is a proactive way to improve overall health, prevent future problems, and enhance mobility. Here are just a few benefits of physical therapy:

  • Pain Management: PTs use techniques such as therapeutic exercises, manual therapy, and modalities like ultrasound to help manage pain without the need for long-term use of medications.
  • Injury Prevention: Physical therapists work with patients to improve strength, flexibility, and balance, reducing the risk of future injuries.
  • Improved Mobility: For those struggling with movement issues, PTs help improve range of motion, coordination, and the ability to move freely.

Physical therapists, PTAs, and students are committed to transforming lives. These professionals are on the frontlines, empowering individuals to regain control of their physical health. Their expertise, compassion, and perseverance make a significant difference in the lives of countless patients.

For PTs and PTAs, every day is an opportunity to change lives. They give people the ability to walk again after surgery, help stroke survivors regain independence, and restore hope to those struggling with chronic pain. Through their dedication to improving health outcomes, PTs are unsung heroes in healthcare.

Physical Therapy: A Team Effort

The success of physical therapy isn’t just about the therapists themselves. It’s about a team approach that includes PTAs, other healthcare professionals, and, most importantly, the patients. Together, they work toward a common goal—improving mobility, restoring function, and enhancing the quality of life. For patients, being proactive and engaged in their therapy is a vital part of their success, and physical therapists provide the support, encouragement, and expert care they need to achieve their goals. Physical therapists are not just professionals—they’re partners in your health journey.
